Here's your weekly bulletin highlighting upcoming UN Observances, Caribbean participation in UN Affairs and key events hosted by the UN System in the Caribbean.
Monday 10 June - The Special Committee on Decolonization will meet in New York from 10 to 21 June for a substantive session that examines the situations in the Non-Self-Governing Territories under its purview and to adopt recommendations in the form of draft resolutions to the General Assembly. From the Caribbean, the question of Anguilla, Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the United States Virgin Islands will be considered across two plenary meetings held this day.
Tuesday 11 June - International Day of Play will be observed for the first time ever, marking a significant milestone in efforts to preserve, promote, and prioritize playing so that all people, especially children, can reap the rewards and thrive to their full potential.
Jamaica is among a core group of UN Member States responsible for tabling the resolution that led to the creation of this observance and will join them and UNICEF to co-host a special event that will be broadcast live on UN Web TV at 1:15 pm AST this day: https://webtv.un.org/en/asset/k17/k17olapb1g
In Guyana, UNICEF is supporting the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security to host a mini conference on Play this day for the benefit of approximately 50 caregivers and parents. Learn more here.

Tuesday 11 June - The United Nation Development Programme (UNDP) in Guyana will join its partners to host part three of their "Democracy Talks Series in Guyana". You can rewatch part two here and register to attend part three, which takes place as an in-person-only event, by clicking here.
Monday 10 June - UN Women Multi-Country Office – Caribbean will continue its mission in Suriname (from 8-12 June) for the Joint SDG programme, Leave No One Behind, where they will facilitate a Business Coaching Workshop for Indigenous and Tribal women.
Monday 10 June - The UNDP CARISECURE 2.0 Barbados team will be on mission to Trinidad and Tobago, 10-12 June, for training with their colleagues, as well as meetings at UN House with UN Women, the office of the Attorney General and CTU.
Other United Nations Observances
Wednesday 12 June - World Day Against Child Labour will focus on celebrating the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention and will present an opportunity to remind all stakeholders to improve their implementation of the two fundamental Conventions on child labour.
Thursday 13 June - International Albinism Awareness Day will be observed under the theme "A decade of collective progress", marking ten years since the launch of this UN observance aimed at ensuring the full and equal enjoyment of rights by persons with albinism.
Friday 14 June - World Blood Donor Day will be observed by the UN World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners under the theme "20 years of celebrating giving: thank you blood donors!". The 20th anniversary of this observance marks a momentous occasion to reflect on achievements, address challenges, and envision a future where safe blood transfusion is universally accessible.
Saturday 15 June - World Elder Abuse Awareness Day will be observed under the theme "Spotlight on Older Persons in Emergencies", which brings attention to the various ways that emergencies such as natural disasters, pandemics, or conflicts disproportionately affect older persons, exacerbating their existing vulnerabilities. Sunday 16 June - International Day of Family Remittances will be observed under the theme "Digital remittances towards financial inclusion and cost reduction".
