UN Guyana Annual Results Report 2023 launched

The report reflects on and highlights the UN System’s continued commitment to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human rights for all. The publication also marks the culmination of the two-year Country Implementation Plan of the Multi-Country Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (MSDCF) for the English and Dutch-speaking Caribbean. 

The Guyana Annual Results Report highlights results across four key pillars: Shared Prosperity and Economic Resilience, Equality and Well-being, Climate Resilience and Natural Resource Management, and Peace, Safety, Justice, and the Rule of Law. 

In 2023, Guyana's global influence grew as it joined the UN Security Council, focusing on climate change and food security. The country showcased progress through its Second Voluntary National Review of the SDGs, where it highlighted achievements in SDGs 6, 7, 9, 11, and 17. National policies prioritized healthcare, education, water, and social services aligned with the SDGs for inclusivity. 

During the period under review, UN initiatives in Guyana further aligned with the national focus to prioritize social protection, food systems, labour, employment, migration, and gender equality, in partnership with various stakeholders. The report highlights significant outcomes such as the empowerment of smallholder farmers, advancements in food security, and promoting gender equality through the Spotlight Initiative to eliminate violence against women and girls. Significant progress was also made in enhancing disaster risk management and sustainable natural resource utilization.

The successes of the UN System in Guyana were made possible with financial support from member states and donors, and the dedication of UN staff in delivering essential services.  

The United Nations remains dedicated to working closely with the Government of Guyana and other stakeholders to achieve the SDGs. Through continued collaboration and targeted interventions, the UN aims to support Guyana in building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future for all its citizens.
