Here's your weekly bulletin highlighting upcoming UN Observances, Caribbean participation in UN Affairs and key events hosted by the UN System in the Caribbean.
The Caribbean faces unique waste management challenges, impacting the environment, human health, and tourism. A circular economy offers solutions by emphasizing waste reduction and resource efficiency. Nonprofits play a crucial role but need more collaboration and knowledge sharing to drive effective wastemanagement practices.
On Wednesday 26 June, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Caribbean Sub-Regional Office will host the webinar “Advancing Waste Management and Circular Economy in the Caribbean: Strategies for Non-Profit Entities”. at 9 am (EST) | 10 am (AST). This represents the sixth webinar in their series "Resilient Islands: Zero Waste and Circular Caribbean” which is organised by the EU-funded project Zero Waste in the Caribbean: New Ways, New Waves and implemented by UNEP and its partners, along with the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS). UN Global Principles on Information Integrity
Monday 24 June - UN Secretary-General António Guterres will launch the UN Global Principles for Information Integrity, a framework for coordinated international action to address the pressing global challenge of misinformation, disinformation, hate speech and other risks to the integrity of the information ecosystem. Tuesday 25 June - Day of the Seafarer 2024 observance will focus on seafarers' contribution to making the maritime sector a safer workplace.
Wednesday 26 June - International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is an observance marked annually with the release of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) annual World Drug Report which contains key statistics and factual data obtained through official sources, a science-based approach and research.
Thursday 27 June - Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day will be observed under the theme Leveraging the Power and Resilience of Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to Accelerate Sustainable Development and Eradicate Poverty in Times of Multiple Crises.
