Here's your weekly bulletin highlighting upcoming UN Observances, Caribbean participation in UN Affairs and key events hosted by the UN System in the Caribbean.
Wednesday 17 July 2024 - The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Caribbean Sub-Regional Office invites you to attend the webinar "An Introduction to the Circular Economy: Definition, Importance and Benefits".
This webinar aims to deepen understanding of the circular economy model, focusing on waste management strategies and ways to extend product lifecycles. Participants will gain insights from the world's first global stocktake of national circular economy roadmaps, revealing over 70 strategies and 2700 policy actions.
This webinar is part of the series "Resilient Islands: Zero Waste and Circular Caribbean," organized by the European Union-funded Zero Waste in the Caribbean: New Ways New Waves Project and implemented by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the OECS, and partners. Thursday 18 July – UN Women Multi-Country Office – Caribbean invites you to attend the launch of their Gender Equality Virtual Tours series! Tour 1: 'Strengthening Institutional and Data Capacity'.
Monday 15 July - World Youth Skills Day is observed under the 2024 Theme: 'Youth Skills for Peace and Development', underscoring the crucial role young people play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of this observance, the Permanent Missions of Portugal and Sri Lanka to the United Nations, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the International Labour Organization, and the United Nations Youth Office are convening a virtual panel discussion that will be rboadcast live on UN Web TV at 10 am (AST).
Tuesday 18 July - Nelson Mandela International Daywill be observed under the theme 'It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity'. The General Assembly will hold an annual commemorative meeting on Monday, 15 July 2024 with the participation of the Deputy Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly that will be livestreamed at 11 am AST on UN Web TV.
Thursday 20 July - International Moon Day as a UN observance marks the anniversary of the first landing by humans on the Moon as part of the Apollo 11 lunar mission.
Thursday 20 July - World Chess Day celebrates chess as one of the most ancient, intellectual and cultural games, with a combination of sport, scientific thinking and elements of art. As an affordable and inclusive activity, it can be exercised anywhere and played by all, across the barriers of language, age, gender, physical ability or social status.
