Friday 4 October - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (FAO) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) invites you to a virtual Regional dialogue on people of African descent and rurality in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Hosted with the Permanent Forum for people of African descent, government authorities and African descent organisations and other high-level strategic allies, this event will address the progress, current gaps and necessary actions to identify ways to promote more inclusive public policies that enhance the recognition of people of African descent, the protection of ancestral knowledge, genetic resources and the right to land, considering the challenges and recommendations that allow the enhancement of alliances, the identification of courses of action and agreements focusing on the next Global Biodiversity Summit COP 16. The event starts at 10 am AST.
Wednesday 2 October - The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), UNICEF and partners will host a webinar on 'Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Disaster Preparedness in Latin America and the Caribbean' at 10:00 AM (EST) || 11:00 A.M( AST).
Monday 30 September - International Translation Day is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security.
Tuesday1 October - International Day of Older Persons is observed in 2024 under the theme 'Ageing with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide'.
Wednesday2 October - International Day of Non-Violence is observed on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence, providing an opportunity to to "disseminate the message of non-violence, including through education and public awareness".
Friday 4 - 10 October - World Space Week was proclaimed to celebrate the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition.
Saturday 5 October - World Teachers’ Day [UNESCO] is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally.
