UNDP Community Outreach in Trinidad and Tobago
From 19 October to 7 December 2024, UNDP Trinidad and Tobago is hosting the event "We Ting" uniTTy in Motion Community Caravan 2024. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport and Community Development in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caravan aims to boost social cohesion, empower youth, and promote gender equality across the Caribbean country. The caravan series will visit seven locations, ending with a grand finale in Port of Spain in December 2024.
The Caravan series will feature cultural performances, cooking, talent showcases, fashion, sports, gaming competitions, art exhibitions, dialogue, workshops and more!
Thursday 24 October - On this day, the UN System across the Caribbean will lead activities in celebration of the 79th anniversary of the creation of the United Nations. UN Day offers the opportunity to amplify our common agenda and reaffirm the purposes and principles of the UN Charter that have guided us for the past 79 years. Many of this year's events are geared towards staff and partners. Below are two examples of events being hosted to mark the observance:
UN Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean will host a staff appreciation event, featuring a series of activities that include a Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Costume Competition; an 'Iron Chef' cooking challenge and an obstacle course competition.
UN Trinidad and Tobago will host its UN Day celebration at Central Bank Auditorium in Trinidad and Tobago, which will feature young spoken word poets performing pieces that relate to peace and security, and other facets of sustainable development.
Upcoming UN Observances
Thursday 24 October - United Nations Day is observed, marking the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
Thursday 24 - 31 October - Global Media and Information Literacy Week is observed under the theme The New Digital Frontiers of Information: "Media and Information Literacy for Public Interest Information". UNESCO Caribbean will be leading activities in Dominica, Jamaica and Belize, marking this observance.
Thursday 24 - 30 October - Disarmament Week seeks to promote awareness and better understanding of disarmament issues and their cross-cutting importance.
Sunday 27 October - World Day for Audiovisual Heritage provides an occasion to raise general awareness of the need to take urgent measures and to acknowledge the importance of audiovisual documents.
