How to follow COP29
Starting Monday 11 November the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan under the presidency of the Government of Azerbaijan. From 11 to 22 November 2024, COP29 will bring together world leaders and negotiators from the member States of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to further global progress, with business leaders, young people, climate scientists, Indigenous Peoples, and civil society sharing insights and best practices to strengthen global, collective and inclusive climate action. Following another year of record-high global heat and extreme weather events, UN climate chief Simon Stiell told negotiators at the COP29 Opening Ceremony that setting an ambitious new climate finance target is crucial for the well-being of all nations, including the wealthiest and most powerful.
Wednesday 13 - Thursday 14 November - A national 'Social Justice Disability Conference' will take place at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Regional Headquarters in Kingston Jamaica. The Conference is co-hosted by the UWI's School of Graduate Studies & Research (SGSR) and the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social & Economic Studies (SALISES), in collaboration with the Social Justice (SO-JUST) Project in Jamaica. SO-JUST is a seven-year social justice reform initiative implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Government of Jamaica, and civil society partners.
The conference will showcase lessons and perspectives on advancing access to justice for Persons with Disabilities.
Thursday 14 November - World Diabetes Day will be observed in 2024 under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps,” highlighting the need to reduce the risk of diabetes and ensure that all people diagnosed with diabetes have access to equitable, comprehensive, affordable, and quality treatment and care.
Saturday 16 November - International Day for Tolerance promotes respect and appreciation for the rich variety of our world's cultures, our forms of expression and ways of being human.
Sunday 17 November - World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims offers an opportunity for drawing attention to the scale of emotional and economic devastation caused by road crashes and for giving recognition to the suffering of road crash victims and the work of support and rescue services.
