16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence
Monday 25 November - UN Women Multi-Country Office - Caribbean has launched the #PushForward social media challenge for this year's campaign marking 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence, observed from 25 November to 10 December. To participate, members of the public are encouraged to create and post short videos pledging an action that supports ending violence against women and girls. Participants should end their messages by performing the "push forward" gesture, 🫶 challenging another organisation or individual to join.
Tonni Brodber, UN Women MCO - Caribbean Representative was the first to take the challenge and pass it on.
16 Days of Activism: Caribbean Stakeholders Meeting
UN Women Multi-Country Office will join The Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Regional Headquarters in Jamaica and the Caribbean Development Bank to host a key regional strategy meeting under the theme #PushForward: Invest to End Violence Against Women and Girls.
This virtual consultation brings together civil society, community organizations, regional stakeholders, and development partners to assess how the Caribbean is investing in ending sexual and gender-based violence and creating a unified response across the region.
Red Shoe Project - Barbados
UN Women MCO – Caribbean has partnered with the European Union Delegation to Barbados and the OECS for the Red Shoe Project, which aims to raise awareness about gender-based violence (GBV). Together with volunteers, the partners came together to paint donated shoes red for an installation where each pair of shoes represents a woman or girl who has survived an attack.
Monday 25 November - At 6 pm AST, the installation will be launched as a poignant reminder of the urgent need to address GBV in the Caribbean and beyond.
16 Days Advocacy Walk in Jamaica
Saturday 30 November - UN Women MCO - Caribbean will participate in the End Violence Against Women (VAW) Advocacy Walk in Emancipation Park, Jamaica from 6 am to 10 am (EST). This initiative by the Bureau of Gender Affairs in Jamaica will bring together survivors, witnesses, service providers, advocates, and key stakeholders to unite in the collective effort to end violence against women, fostering important conversations on each individual's role in this critical cause.
Red Shoe Event - Guyana
Monday 25 November - The United Nations in Guyana will join its partners to launch a Red Shoe Event for 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence at Kingston Seawall Esplenade. In Guyana, the 'red shoe' concept is being used to draw attention attention to the amount of women who have fallen due to GBV.
UN Trinidad and Tobago Supports National Youth Parliamentarians
Monday 25 November - UN Trinidad and Tobago has partnered with the Parliament of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to support 39 youth delegates to prepare the 21st National Youth Parliament. After two months of training in parliamentary practice, policy and protocol, the youth will debate the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) under the motion: "Develop a policy to integrate the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence into the education curriculum."
The UN worked to ensure that themes from the Pact for the Future and the Global Digital Compact —two outcomes documents adopted the UN General Assembly at this September's Summit of the Future— would be incorporated into the discussions. UNEP Webinar on Caribbean Food Security Through Circular Systems
Wednesday 27 November - The UN Environment Programme Caribbean Sub-Regional Office (UNEP) is inviting the public to attend the webinar: "From Farm to Table to Soil: Caribbean Food Security Through Circular Systems". The session explores how circular practices in agriculture can support food security and ecological health. Topics will include regenerative farming, the role of composting and organic waste recycling, and the potential of food scraps to create value-added products.
This webinar is part of the series "Resilient Islands: Zero Waste and Circular Caribbean," organized by the European Union-funded 'Zero Waste in the Caribbean: New Ways New Waves Project' and implemented by UNEP and partners. The webinar starts at 9 am (EST) / 10 am (AST).
United Nations Jamaica Youth partnership Forum
Tuesday 26 November - The UN in Jamaica will host its 'United Nations Partnership Forum' at Summit Hotel, 16 Chelsea Avenue 10, Jamaica from 26 - 27 November. This year's focus is on powering private sector partnerships for Jamaica's youth and the achievement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Skill WAVE Workshop Heads to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Monday 25 November - The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean subregional headquarters for the Caribbean (ECLAC Caribbean) is hosting a series of capacity building workshops, meant to build entrepreneurship skills among target groups in each Caribbean country. UNDP Community Outreach in Tobago
Saturday 30 November - UNDP Trinidad and Tobago is carrying their "We Ting" uniTTy in Motion Community Caravan 2024 to Canaan/Bon Accord, Tobago. Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Sport and Community Development in Trinidad and Tobago, the Caravan aims to boost social cohesion, empower youth, and promote gender equality across the Caribbean country.
