From goals to gains: All 2024 UN Caribbean Annual Results Reports out now
The UN Caribbean Country Teams have released their complete set of Annual Results Reports, showcasing sustainable development progress regionally in 2024.
The United Nations Country Teams across the English- and Dutch-speaking Caribbean have released all of their 2024 Annual Results Reports, revealing a year of breakthrough moments and partnership-driven achievements that transformed goals into real-world impact. These yearly reports represent far more than statistical summaries—they tell the story of how international cooperation weathered storms both literal and metaphorical, from Hurricane Beryl's devastating sweep across multiple islands to the ongoing challenges of climate change and advancing inclusive growth.
Produced by the UN Resident Coordinator Offices to demonstrate collective UN impact at the country level, this year's reports capture a region in transition, where innovation met urgent need and collaborative partnerships proved their worth. Whether through Guyana's agricultural transformations, UN support for governments participating in the The Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS4), or expanding coverage in previously underserved territories, each report reveals how UN offices, agencies, funds and programmes —delivering as one under the leadership of Resident Coordinators— is translating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into tangible progress that truly leaves no one behind.
Guyana: Partnership Powering Progress
Partnership-powered progress across the board took on new meaning in 2024 as the UN Country Team deepened its collaboration with the Government of Guyana to accelerate SDG progress through inclusive, rights-based support. Working closely with government partners, this collective effort yielded remarkable advancements—from strengthening agri-food systems and rural livelihoods to expanding digital inclusion and improving equitable access to education, health, and social services.
The year brought enhanced climate-smart disaster preparedness, strengthened gender-based violence responses, and advanced HIV inclusivity programmes that reached key populations including women, youth, persons with disabilities, Indigenous peoples, LGBTQI+ persons, and Venezuelan migrants. This progress reflects the Government's commitment to the most vulnerable and is supported by the dedicated work of 165 UN staff members who transformed partnership into tangible impact.
Jamaica MCO: Innovation Meets Impact
Innovation met impact in new ways in 2024 as the UN Country Team serving Jamaica, The Bahamas, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, and Turks and Caicos Islands faced a multiplicity of challenges with agility, innovation, and a strengthened spirit of partnership. This year's AI-powered, mural-inspired report captures not just data but the cultural soul of the islands through bold artistic expressions that serve as dynamic platforms for messages of justice, climate action, and sustainable progress.
When Hurricane Beryl struck the region, the response demonstrated the strength of the UN's "Delivering as One" modality as the team swiftly mobilised emergency response strategies, channelled resources, and coordinated efforts to support governments and affected communities during their time of need. Beyond crisis response, 2024 delivered breakthrough moments—from the Jamaica and Bahamas Partnership Forums, to the launch of a regional human rights office, the formation of a Youth Advisory Group, and digital initiatives that powered climate-resilient, inclusive development across all five territories.
UN Barbados and Eastern Caribbean MCO: One Powerful Response
Ten islands, one powerful response: in 2024, the UN Sub-Regional Team worked alongside governments and communities in Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, to tackle challenges head-on. Despite the destruction wrought by Hurricane Beryl—the Atlantic’s earliest Category 5 storm—the team mobilised swiftly to support governments in their recovery efforts and protect the most vulnerable across affected islands. This collaboration was driven by teamwork, strengthened partnerships, and shared purpose.
Throughout the Eastern Caribbean, UN support helped to deliver significant gains—from safer communities and strengthened social protection to youth development, economic growth, climate action, digital transformation, and more resilient healthcare systems. The region demonstrated the power of unity and resilience in driving inclusive progress. The 2024 Annual Results Report highlights these achievements and underscores the essential role of multilateral cooperation in advancing national priorities.
Suriname: From Trust to Transformation
In 2024, the UN system in Suriname strengthened its role as a trusted partner of the Government. The UN Country Team, comprising 16 entities, worked closely with government, civil society, and the private sector to advance priorities including democratic governance, human rights, climate action, and inclusive economic growth. This coordinated effort supported reforms endorsed by the International Monetary Fund that contributed to restoring financial stability and laid the foundation for long-term resilience.
Suriname’s global leadership was equally significant. The country championed carbon-negative climate action, playing a pivotal role at COP29 and contributing to key regional initiatives. Nationally, the UN backed mechanisms like the National SDG Commission to accelerate progress across health, education, and environmental protection. The 2024 Annual Results Report highlights how partnership, innovation, and multilateral cooperation are driving Suriname’s transformation towards a prosperous and inclusive future.
Belize: Backing Meaningful Change
Backing meaningful change, the UN Belize Country Team supported the country in achieving significant progress towards sustainable, inclusive development. The UN Country Team partnered with government, civil society, youth, and communities to launch the country’s first Social Protection Strategy, delivering cash transfers to hundreds of vulnerable families and improving access to health, nutrition, and education. Digitisation advanced with over 25,000 immigration records processed and universal birth registration extended to asylum seekers. A major household survey strengthened national data systems, enabling better decision-making.
Climate resilience efforts included climate-smart farms and resilient shelters, alongside disaster risk training and youth-led initiatives to tackle rising climate threats. The green economy advanced through refrigerant phase-out, clean energy pilots, and integrated water management. Reforms supported by the PACE Justice Project and anti-corruption initiatives, helped increase access to justice and reduced case backlogs. The 2024 Annual Results Report highlights how partnership and trust continue to drive Belize’s progress towards a just, resilient future that leaves no one behind.
Trinidad and Tobago: A Year Marked by Milestones
In a year marked by milestones, Trinidad and Tobago made significant strides towards inclusive, resilient development through close collaboration between the UN and national partners. Key achievements reflected in the Report include the launch of the National E-Commerce Strategy, integration of the first Venezuelan refugee children into public schools, and new national action plans addressing gender-based violence. Upgraded Disaster Risk Information Management Systems helped to strengthen national preparedness, while tougher carbon-reduction commitments and solar power installations accelerated the clean energy transition ahead of COP30.
Progress spanned economic transformation and social inclusion, with UN-supported initiatives expanding financial access, driving innovations in climate-smart agriculture, and promoting digital payments. Health, education, and social protection advanced through initiatives like mental health text lines for youth and enhanced sexual and reproductive health services. UN-backed justice reforms and anti-trafficking efforts also improved safety and governance.
Aruba Curaçao and Sint Maarten: First Dedicated Dutch Islands Report
2024 marked the UN’s first-ever Results Report dedicated exclusively to Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten, capturing strong gains despite limited in-country presence. UN collaboration deepened across the islands, delivering results in all priority areas, working with governments and communities to strengthen sustainability, resilience, and inclusion. National leadership drove partnerships that advanced gender-responsive governance, ethical digital transformation, and resilient health systems.
Trade and tech saw real momentum. In Aruba and Curaçao, customs systems were modernised to boost efficiency and transparency. Across all three islands, efforts built digital skills, improved resilience, and promoted ethical governance in tech—while guarding against misinformation and digital harms. The Dutch Caribbean also raised its voice globally—most notably at SIDS4, spotlighting the unique challenges and ambitions of small island developing States (SIDS).
